Review – Inception

Christopher Nolan…you…you mad genius you.

In a box office filled with half-assed sequels and rushed comic book adaptations, a movie like Inception is a rare gem.  This film is evidence that there is still some amazing creativity coming out of Hollywood.  And unlike M. Night Shamalan, every film Nolan makes is exponentially better than the last.

This film follows Cobb (DiCapprio) an international fugitive and his team of “Extractors”.  Their job is a kind of high tech espionage.  They invade peoples dreams and steal their secrets.  One day Cobb is given an offer he can’t refuse.  This one job will allow him to return home to his family.  The job, however, is nearly impossible to pull off.

I think the simplest description of the movie is: Ocean’s 11 meets Bourne Identity meets the Matrix.

Since most of this movie takes place in the dream world, Nolan has given us some incredible visuals.  At one point a city folds over on itself so that directly above the ground is another ground facing downward, completely unaware of anything unusual.  Another scene involves a fight in a hotel…in zero g.

Nolan kept me guessing right up until the credits.  I never knew what direction the film would take next.  Much like a real dream the plot moved in random yet related directions.  It became difficult to keep track of what was real and what was a dream.

I believe that Inception will join the ranks of films like the Matrix, Blade Runner, and 2001.  It is truly a sci-fi masterpiece.

I can’t wait to see what Nolan has for us next.

Score: 5/5 stars.
